
AIHP Executive Director Lucas Richert, PhD, today announced that Dr. Dennis B. Worthen has been selected to receive the 2023 George Urdang Medal, AIHP’s most prestigious award.
The George Urdang Medal, awarded biennially, honors lifetime achievements in the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. Named for AIHP’s founding director, Professor George Urdang (1882–1960), the medal recognizes sustained, significant scholarly contributions to the field.
Dr. Worthen’s work exemplifies excellence and impact. For more than five decades, he has illuminated pharmacy’s history through meticulous research and compelling storytelling. His Heroes of Pharmacy series, Pharmacy in World War II, and We Remember Them: Pharmacy’s Fallen have become essential works, blending scholarly rigor with vivid narratives that honor pharmacy’s role in service and innovation.
In recognition of these extraordinary contributions—meticulous research, powerful storytelling, and enduring impact—the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy proudly presents the 2025 George Urdang Medal to Dr. Dennis B. Worthen.
