The AIHP library holds more than 4,000 unique titles on pharmacy and pharmaceuticals, including textbooks, pharmacopoeias, dispensatories, formularies, dissertations, theses, and histories of pharmacy from around the world. The collection is open to the public for research. Because the library is non-circulating, all materials must be used on-site. We are expanding our online catalog and will add titles as they are cataloged.
The American Institute of the History of Pharmacy has benefited from the generosity of our donors to expand upon our collections and we are exceptionally grateful for their support. Additionally, we acknowledge the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Library Collections Enhancement Initiative for its generous grant support, which has significantly strengthened and expanded our collection.

The Psychoactive Substances Collection contains a variety of materials centered around the medical, scientific, and cultural stories about psychedelics in society. There are over 150 titles in the collection and is continuously expanding. The book collection covers a variety of topics all related to psychoactives, including drug legislation, social experience, drug abuse, and drug chemistry. Other topics focus solely on different psychoactives, including peyote, tranquilizers, cannabis, and hallucinogens.
