AIHP Historical Director, Dr. Lucas Richert, recently published a book about the history of pharmaceuticals and illicit substances, Strange Trips: Science, Culture, and the Regulation of Drugs. The book was published by McGill-Queen’s University Press in February 2019.

Strange Trips examines the myths, meanings, and boundaries of recreational drugs, palliative care drugs, and pharmaceuticals as well as struggles over product innovation, consumer protection, and freedom of choice in the medical marketplace. Dr. Richert officially launched his book at Rennebohm Hall in February at an event sponsored by AIHP and the UW School of Pharmacy.

Strange Trips, which discusses a variety of illicit and OTC drugs, offers timely recommendations for the future of drug regulation. The book will likely be of interest to many AIHP members!
