Your attendance is needed! The Nominations Committee will present the slate of nominees to fill upcoming vacancies on the Board of Directors. Under AIHP bylaws, any member in attendance at the Annual Member Meeting can nominate additional candidates if seconded by two other members. The Nominations Committee’s nominees, plus any additional members nominated at the Annual Member Meeting, will be on the ballot emailed to members later in November.
AIHP’s Nominations Committee has announced the nominees for open positions on the Institute’s Board of Directors for 2027.
This year, two candidates are running for two open positions, each a three-year term. The Committee has nominated Dr. Lucinda Maine and Dr. Wes Sparkmon for the positions of Director.
Lucinda L. Maine, Ph.D., R.Ph., FAPhA, FFIP, is the CEO Emerita of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Maine served as executive vice president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy from 2002 until 2022. AACP serves as the leading advocate for high-quality pharmacy education in the US and around the world. Prior to assuming her position in July 2002, Maine served as senior vice president for policy, planning, and communications with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).
Dr. Maine is a pharmacy graduate of Auburn University and received her doctorate at the University of Minnesota. She has also received honorary degrees from Western University and Ohio Northern University. In her academic career, Lucinda served on the faculty at the University of Minnesota, where she practiced in the field of geriatrics and was an associate dean at the Samford University School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Maine has been active in leadership roles in and out of the profession. Prior to joining the APhA staff, she served as speaker of the APhA House of Delegates and as an APhA trustee. She currently serves as a board member and vice chair of the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education. She also serves as a founding board member and current President of the Alliance for Integrated Medication Management.
Dr. Maine has received numerous awards, including the 2019 Remington Honor Medal and a Special Recognition Award in 2022 from the Association of American Medical Colleges. After retiring from AACP in June 2022, Lucinda continued speaking, writing, and consulting with a variety of entities.
Wes Sparkmon, MPH, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Social and Administrative Pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions at Creighton University. His teaching and research focus on pharmacy policy, workforce development, pharmacy education, and the evolving roles of pharmacy technicians within the healthcare system. At Creighton, he prepares future pharmacists to navigate the business, regulatory, and public health dimensions of pharmacy practice.
Dr. Sparkmon holds undergraduate training in pharmaceutical sciences and graduate degrees in public health and pharmacy administration. Before entering academia, he worked as a certified pharmacy technician in both retail and long-term care settings and taught pharmacy technician certification preparation courses. His academic experience includes teaching and research appointments in pharmacy law, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, medication safety, and social and administrative pharmacy.
