Get to Know Us: An Interview with Sam Popek

What excites you about joining AIHP?

I’m excited to join AIHP because of its rich historical resources and meaningful content. I’m especially interested in helping share and amplify its mission by making the history of pharmacy more engaging and relevant. With my background in design and communication, I’m excited to help grow AIHP’s presence and connect more people to its work.

What is special to you about our current collections projects?

What stands out to me about the current collections projects is how they take important historical materials and make them feel relevant today. I think it’s really important to not just preserve history, but to share it in a way that people can actually connect with and learn from. I’m especially interested in how these collections can be translated into engaging digital content that reaches a wider audience. It feels like a great opportunity to help more people discover and appreciate the history of pharmacy in a more accessible way.

The AIHP is over eighty years old, and you can still see the traces of people who have contributed time and effort to its mission. What mark do you hope to leave on the Institute?

I hope to leave a mark by helping make AIHP’s work feel more meaningful and engaging, especially for people who may not already be familiar with the history of pharmacy. I’d love to contribute by creating content that brings these stories to life in a clear and approachable way, whether that’s through digital updates, communications, or outreach. Even in a small way, I hope my work helps more people connect with the Institute’s mission and keeps its impact growing for future audiences.
