As Genevieve concludes her time with the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy (AIHP), we asked her to reflect on her experience working with the Institute’s collections, the projects that stood out to her, and the memories she will take with her.
During her time at AIHP, Genevieve gained hands-on experience working with archival materials and learning more about the history of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals. We asked her to share a few reflections on her time with the Institute.
What’s something you learned or will take away from your time at AIHP?
“I learned a lot about archival standard practices from Hannah and Anna, as well as all of the archival medicines!”
What was your favorite part or memory from working here?
“I had such a great time hanging out with the team for our team lunches and for the board dinner! It was lovely to see everyone outside of the context of the office.”
Is there a project, artifact, or experience you worked on that stood out to you the most?
“I think working with the new acquisition and documenting all of the different drugs stood out to me. I also think that reading through all Urdang’s correspondence truly gave the archive a more human feel. There was a moment, towards the end of going through the correspondence, that I looked around and realized that Urdang’s personal collection was surrounding me. That felt pretty special.”
What will you miss most about AIHP?
“I will miss everyone that works there! Aside from the fun of learning how to archive, the people that work at AIHP are great.”
